England selects squads for the U14 European circuit, Commonwealth Championships and the Five Nations. Selection is ranking-driven.

England Fencing ≠ British Fencing

EF selects England squads for the EFC circuit, Commonwealth and Five Nations. GB selection is handled separately by British Fencing. Being in an England squad does not automatically mean GB selection. Full explanation →

U14 European circuit — 2025/26

Two trips per weapon per year. All events on the EFC circuit. Squads of up to 16 per weapon per gender, selected from the frozen England ranking list at each selection date.

How selection works

Rankings freeze

At the selection date, the England ranking list is frozen. This is the list used for selection.

Top fencers invited

Fencers are invited in ranking order by email, up to squad size (16 per weapon per gender). You have 48 hours to accept.

Reserves contacted

If places are not taken within 48 hours, the next-ranked fencer on the reserve list is contacted.

Squad confirmed

Once all places are filled or declined, the squad is announced publicly on this page.

What happens next

Your team manager will contact you with full details — travel arrangements, kit requirements, costs and competition itinerary.

Eligibility

  • ✓ Born in the correct year for U14 (born 2012 or later for 2025/26)
  • ✓ Current EF membership at the date of the competition
  • ✓ England birth, parentage or residency qualification
  • ✓ Minimum age 10 on the day of the competition
  • ✓ Not selected for another nation at the same event

Appeals

If you believe a selection decision is incorrect, you have 5 days from the squad announcement to submit a written appeal.

Appeals must be submitted in writing to the EF selection lead. The full appeals policy is in the selection policy document below.

No selections at U10 or U12

England rankings exist at U10 and U12 for benchmarking and building a fencing record. No England squad selections are made at these ages. U14 is the first age group with England squad selection.
